This year, thanks to the generosity of a group at Perot Systems and The Dallas Zoo, we were able to provide several foster children and their families with a happy childhood memory by sending them to the Dallas Zoo for a day! Thanks to the collaborative effort with these generous members of the community, more than 75 kids were able to enjoy a childhood experience they had likely never experienced before.
We recently received the following letter from a foster parent who was involved that day (these are the letters that tell us we are reaching these kids and we are making a difference in their lives. This, readers, is why we do what we do).

"Wednesday's Child made it possible for me to take my foster family of four children to the Dallas Zoo this summer. The children still talk about their trip and how the monkeys swinging around made them laugh and laugh! Not only did they get to go to the zoo, but they had a "prize package" that had a zoo journal, stickers, pencils, etc... They still have the journals and have drawn pictures of their memories of that day. They were also excited that they were able to get a kids meal in a cool zoo bag. We are so thankful to Wednesday's Child for thinking of our kids and helping us to make memories with them. We can give them "things" which may get sold by birthparents when they get their children back, but no one can ever take away their memories of things they have done and places they have seen while in our care. Thank you so much for the fun!"
This is just one of the events we have had this year for foster children and their families. This program, our "Childhood Memories" program, is designed to bring together local companies who wish to give back and do something wonderful for the children in our community. As the foster mother said above, nobody can take away their memories!
Thank you to Perot Systems and to the Dallas Zoo for helping make this dream a reality for so many deserving children in foster care!
